Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept insurance?
For Individual therapy, I am in-network with the following insurance plans:
Aetna
Quest
Carelon
The Health Plan
Law Enforcement Health Benefits (of Philadelphia)
If you have any of the above insurance plans, go to my Headway profile page for more information about using your insurance to pay for therapy.
With all other insurance plans, I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not bill insurance directly but provide a monthly superbill (an itemized receipt) for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. I recommend contacting your insurance provider to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits before beginning therapy.
Is relationship or couples counseling covered by insurance?
In most cases, no. Traditional relationship or couples counseling is generally not covered by health insurance because the focus of treatment is the relationship itself rather than the diagnosis or treatment of an individual's mental health condition.
Relationship counseling may address concerns such as communication difficulties, conflict resolution, emotional connection, intimacy, parenting challenges, and major life transitions. Because these services are typically not considered a covered insurance benefit, couples counseling is offered on a private-pay basis. Insurance claims are not submitted, and superbills are not routinely provided for relationship-focused counseling.
In some situations, one member of the couple may have a diagnosed mental health condition for which involvement of the partner is clinically indicated as part of treatment. In those cases, insurance coverage may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If services are determined to meet medical necessity criteria and qualify for insurance billing, this will be discussed with both partners before any change in treatment or billing practices occurs.
What are your private pay fees?
Individual therapy sessions are $160 per 50 minute session, and couples sessions are $200 per 50 minute session. Payment is due at the time of service and can be made using a credit card, debit card, cash, check, or HSA/FSA card.
Do you offer a sliding scale or reduced fee?
I have a number of sliding-scale spots for clients with financial need. These openings are limited, but please reach out if cost is a concern.
Can I use my HSA or FSA card for therapy?
Yes. Therapy is typically an eligible expense under Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). You can use your card directly for payment or request an itemized receipt for reimbursement.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes. I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions for clients throughout Pennsylvania. Many clients appreciate the flexibility of virtual therapy — especially during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, or busy family seasons. In-person sessions are also available if you prefer to meet face-to-face.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is about getting to know you. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you hope to gain, and any questions or concerns you have. It’s also an opportunity for you to see if my approach feels like a good fit. There’s no pressure. It’s a collaborative process that moves at your pace.
How often will we meet and for how long?
Most clients start with weekly 50-minute sessions. As we make progress, sessions may become less frequent. The overall length of therapy varies depending on your goals. Some people come for a few months to focus on specific issues, while others continue longer for deeper personal growth or ongoing support.
What’s your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a session.
Late cancellations or missed appointments are charged at half the session rate, except in cases of emergency.
What if my partner or I are unsure about couples therapy?
That’s completely normal. Many couples feel uncertain before starting. In our first session, we’ll explore what each of you hopes to get out of therapy and whether it feels like a good fit. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where both partners can feel heard and understood. I use the Gottman Method tools to facilitate communication and learn new ways to resolve conflict.
How do I get started?
